Adventures in Antwerp

For our annual service trip, four different SFC Belgium groups came together to do a different type of trip--this year we stayed in Belgium to help the start-up of a new international church in Antwerp called "AnTiA" (All Nations Together In Antwerp). (To the left is a full picture of the team who helped with the start-up.) Admist getting lost while driving a bus on the ring in Antwerp, eating delicious food, and talking and praying, the SFC team went out purposefully into the city of Antwerp to have intentional conversations about spirituality and how much God loves them.

While talking with people, many people said they were looking for a church that was "open-minded" where anyone would be accepted. Sylvia from Hugary told me a little about herself saying that she is a catholic, but that she would never go to church because she does not believe in God. Dimetrie believed in God and prayed from time to time but he did not yet see the need to let God become a part of his daily life. Elke said that she believes in the goodness and love in people, yet due to the many hardships she has faced in life, she did not want to believe in one God nor in the Bible.

What the 20 SFC students and I saw were that people wanted a place to belong, a place to fit in, they wanted something to believe in. LAst night we had a "Good Friday" event that we had been inviting people to all week. People came who were a Chrisitan and were looking for a church, others came because they wanted to see what church and God might have to offer them.
